Apartment SD11 | N.Smyrni

The aim of the proposal was to reconfigure the existing floor plan to accommodate the needs of a family of four.

The apartment building dates from the 1970s and the design proposal sought to preserve and integrate parts of the original architectural features and materials, while updating finishes where it was necessary. The original hardwood flooring was carefully restored, along with the marble fireplace surround. Complementary stone tiles were introduced in selected areas to harmonize with the existing marble and create a cohesive material palette.

Other objectives of the design proposal included the creation of three well-defined bedroom areas, two comfortably sized bathrooms, and improved circulation between the entrance, living and dining areas.

Particular emphasis was placed on maximizing storage, with the addition of a custom-designed entrance bench and entrance wardrobe, as well as a dedicated walk-in closet within the master suite.

The removal of the walls separating the kitchen from the living areas created an open-plan layout, enhancing spatial continuity and maximizing the natural light that permeates throughout the room.

To further integrate the kitchen into the main living area, its layout was pushed forward in the space, creating room for a new home office adjacent to the kitchen and accommodating the growing need for remote working.

A new metal-and-glass partition defines the transition between the two spaces while allowing natural light to pass through from both sides.

The lighting design, electrical and plumbing installations were also fully updated as part of the overall design process.
